TOMO Hotelier

What do you consider your team’s greatest achievement?
We have exactly the same team since we opened, 3 years ago. We are family now.
But it's not only about Casa Cat Ba small team. It's also about the relationships we have with local people from the island, the fishermen, the local suppliers. That's the real team !

What do you most value in a hotel for your own holidays?
Of course, the way we are greeted. We don't like long check-in procedures. We love to meet the owners and listen to their story, experience and advice.

What is one place nearby that every one of your guests should discover?
Holbox Island is a nature reserve. There are still many wild spaces where you can observe flamingos, especially in Cabo Catoche.
On the main land, Yucatan is very rich, there are so many places to visit : Chichen Itza, the ruins of Coba and all the magical cenotes.

What is your dream journey?
The dream journey would be to take a plane ticket to a first destination, then from there, decide to go elsewhere and elsewhere again, for months, with just a cabin suitcase.

What local dish do you never tire of eating?
Of course, guacamole and mangoes are our diary routine.

What motivated you to become a hotelier?
We wanted to create a hotel that looks like us, a place where you immediately feel home, where clients are not clients, in fact, but guests welcomed by the owners.

What was your greatest extravagance in creating your hotel?
Haha ! We found by chance this house on Holbox Island and we decided to buy it after a 10 minutes visit.
We flight back to France the day after, we quitted our jobs, said goodbye to friends and family and came back to Holbox because we knew that house was the perfect place to live our dream and share it with our guests.

Where do you feel happiest on your property?
Honestly, we could say every where. But the very best place is on the deck, around the bar, sharing a drink with our guests, looking at the turquoise waters of the ocean.
