Outside guests can also take part in these activities, and can enjoy an escape from the hustle and crowds of the Medina through the hotel’s pool and lunch package.
Jnane Tamsna boasts a beautiful gallery and boutique where guests can buy fashion, art and interior decor items specially curated and designed by Meryanne Loum-Martin. Gary Martin’s adjoining EthnoBotanica Café and Shop serves healthy, delicious juices made from seasonal fruits and vegetables, and sells local products including honey, natural cosmetics, and more, with the goal of supporting the sustainable livelihoods of communities throughout Morocco.
“Marrakech gave me the opportunity to develop my creativity with incredible freedom. My husband and I (Dr. Gary Martin, an ethnobotanist and founder of the Global Diversity Foundation) bought land in the Palmeraie in 2000, and we opened the Jnane Tamsna in 2001. We built it from scratch; there was nothing there. A few kilometers away from the center of Marrakech, the terrain extends over three hectares. We have an extraordinary garden: the century-old palm trees are one of the main reasons why we fell in love with the area.”
“Jnane Tamsna has a deep connection to Morocco’s rich cultural and natural history. We use traditional irrigation systems to water our organic gardens, which bustle with birds, tortoises, hedgehogs, and over 500 species of plants. We grow all of the seasonal vegetables we serve, and our guests can also purchase them at our Ethnobotanica Café & Shop, a social enterprise supporting the sustainable livelihoods of communities throughout Morocco. Through its partnership with the Global Diversity Foundation, Jnane Tamsna offers its guests the opportunity to give back, whilst enjoying a blissful getaway.”

"Behind Jnane Tamsna is a wonderful interior designer who is also the ultimate hostess: Meryanne Loum-Martin! It is definitively thanks to Meryanne that I am an off the beaten track hotelier today. During a stay in her previous property, Dar Tamsna, Meryanne sparked in me to a freedom to dream that transformed me and has never left me ever since. Merci, Meryanne."
